The Challenge and surprises at Paul Ricard

Le Castellet (Var), 4th July 2009

The Ferrari Racing Days event running all weekend got underway today at the Paul Ricard HTTT circuit. This is the fifth round of the Italian and European Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli series and today the F430s took part in qualifying and the first races. Also on track, ten examples of the Ferrari FXX, completing a few free practice sessions.
As a curtain raiser, yesterday, the French track hosted an exciting karting race, featuring drivers and those working at the circuit.

In the Italian round, at the end of an action-packed race, Rossocorsa driver Andrea De Lorenzi came out on top on the main category of the Trofeo Pirelli. Crossing the line behind him were standard bearers for the Motor/Piacenza team, Giorgio Sernagiotto and Lorenzo Casè.

Among the gentlemen drivers in the Coppa Shell, there was a fourth consecutive victory for Stefano Gai (Rossocorsa,) who finished ahead of his team mate Tommaso Rocca and Massimo Mantovani (Motor/Malucelli) who drops to fifth, to the benefit of Giandomenico Sposito (CDP) following post-race scrutineering.

As for the European Trofeo Pirelli, it was the F430 Challenge of the Motor/Malucelli team, driven by Max Blancardi who took the win, beating the German Bjorn Grossman (Autohaus Gohm) and France’s Nicolas Misslin (Stradale Automobile,) while in the Coppa Shell race, victory ended up going to Frenchman Jean-Marc Bachelier (Motor/Piacenza,) ahead of fellow countryman Stephane Clareton (Stradale Automobile) and Hungary’s Tibor Valint (Warm Up.)
