Shell Historic Challenge – Passion and solidarity

Le Vigeant (Poitou-Charentes), 7th June 2009

Today the Shell Ferrari Historic Challenge’s second round came to an end at the French Circuit du Val De Vienne. The Challenge was held at the Sport & Collection event, dedicated to cancer research. The event is one of the most important meetings for historical cars with its slogan “ 500 Ferrari contre le cancer”. Thanks to the support of Maranello’s F1 Clienti department three historical single-seaters were sent onto the track: the car used by Felipe Massa in the 2006 Championship and the Ferrari 333 SP, the splendid car, which marked Ferrari’s comeback to the "Sport Prototype" races in 1993.

The second race of the historical jewels from the Prancing Horse, where also cars from Maserati have been starting since 1999, was a blueprint of the first race, which was held yesterday: in grid “A”, for cars with drum brakes, victory went to Stefan Schollwöck behind the wheel of a 1932 Maserati 4CM, followed by Gigi Baulino with a Maserati 250 F (1954) and Nicolas Zapata with a Ferrari 625 TR (1956). Grid “B”, dedicated to the cars with disk brakes, was dominated again by the 1980 Ferrari 512 BB LM of Mister John B, followed by the two Ferrari F40 (1992) with Darius Ahrabian and Christian Chavy.

After the races at Le Vigeant Massimo Sordi is now the overall leader with 60 points followed by Nicolas Zapata with 54 and Mister John of B with 52 points.

The next Shell Ferrari Historic Challenge race will be held on 6th September at the Brno circuit in the Czech Republic; it will be this season’s sixth appointment with the Ferrari Racing Days.
