Ferrari Racing Days at Mugello: Sernagiotto leads, Gai surprises

Mugello (Scarperia), 3rd May 2009

The Mugello International Circuit today hosted the second round of this season’s Italian series of the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli, the one-make series now in its seventeenth year. Also on the race card was the second round of the Trofeo Abarth 500, making its first ever appearance at the Tuscan track.
In Race 1 of the main category of the Trofeo Pirelli, victory went to Andrea Belluzzi: the Motor/Modena team driver from San Marino converted the pole position he took yesterday, crossing the line ahead of Giorgio Sernagiotto (Motor/Piacenza) and Marco Mapelli (Rossocorsa.) The places were inverted in the afternoon’s race, with the win going to Giorgio Sernagiotto ahead of Belluzzi and Mapelli, the latter again third on the podium.

Among the gentlemen drivers in the Coppa Shell, after winning Race 1 ahead of Stefano Gai (Rossocorsa) and Gianluca Carboni (Motor/Malucelli), Benedetto Marti was unfortunately unable to finish the second race as a result of an unlucky accident on the final lap. The Motor/Piacenza driver thus hands the lead in the category to the youngster Stefano Gai, who delivered an amazing performance which took him to the top step of the podium ahead of Massimo Mantovani (Motor/Malucelli) and Salvatore Insigne (Motor/Piacenza).
