The Mugello circuit: a success story

The Mugello circuit is not just one of the most exciting and demanding tracks in the world but also an important economic reality and source of revenue for the owner and the region. This is the result of a report by the Italian research company Simurg, presented today to the press at the race track in Tuscany in the presence of Stefano Domenicali, Head of the Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro, the new CEO of the Mugello Circuit S.p.A. (100% of the company is owned by Ferrari, which is also managing the circuit) Paolo Poli, his predecessor Fausto Cappi and the mayor of Scarperia Sandra Galazzo.
An estimate of the overall economic impact was made of about 22.7 million Euros. Around four and a half million Euros are generated directly by the track itself (purchase of goods and services, property maintenance, management of the structure and the staff), while just over 18 million arrive from the hotel, restaurant, hospitality, commercial and craftsmanship sectors. The circuit-company earned 1,9 million during the year examined in the research (2007): this is the difference between costs (13.7 million, 2.5 for depreciation) and revenue (15.6), fruits from an activity, which is carried out on an average on two out of three days during a solar year.
"The circuit means movement of people and resources, investment and opportunities for development," Domenicali said. "Ferrari believes in this facility and wants to make the most of it in the future with new initiatives. From the organizational point of view this facility represents excellence not only in Italy but in the whole world. I want to thank everybody working here: it's a slim organization, made almost entirely by people from the region, who know how to give it all with commitment and professionalism."
