15th MASERATI DAY ?“Great passion with ‘Tridente’”

Shinichi Ekko Chairman- MASERATI CLUB OF JAPAN

On the 29th & 30th November we successfully organized the biggest national MASERATI DAY ever (15th annual) with more than 100 members in attendance, spanning from a late 40s A6, and a significant race car 200Si, to latest models Quattroporte S, and GranTurismo S. This time we were back in the Hamanako Area which we had chosen for the third time. Grand XIV Hamanako is one of the best area resort facilities, located on the lakeside of Hamanako. Under a blue sky we enjoyed a two day program in the best warm weather.
FIRST DAY
Cars gathered in the parking lot of Hamanako Boatclub Canal, a luxurious boat harbor next to the Grand XIV Hamanako at 12:00am. With great interest we lauded over the details of these cars. Outstanding this year was a 200Si, driven by a well-known singer and commentator, Mr. Sakai. The condition of the car was near perfect with a interesting history.

After repainting the bodywork for more than one year, an A6-1500 Pininfarina was shown in perfect condition, including engine and drivetrain. This seemed to be one of the best A6-1500 in the world.
Other fantastic examples were a new Quattroporte S with a nice color combination, Grantursmo S with a impressive exhaust sound in “Sport mode,” Quattroporte 1, Ghibli, and Bora.
After the opening ceremony, the presentation of MCJ’s Concours d’Elegance was held. Meanwhile each participant gave a speech regarding his own Maserati and we conversed with each other. Managing directors of our importer CORNES (and sponsors of the event) were invited to our Gala dinner in the party room of the Hamanako Boatclub Canal. There I read a letter message from Mr. Wester, CEO of MASERATI SpA and Maria Teresa de Filippis, honorary President of Maserati Club (in Italy) and showed their video messages about other events in Modena.

Maserati’s official sponsors Pirelli, Salvatore Ferragamo, Audemars Piguet, assisted at these events and we were very happy to receive their exclusive gifts.
At the latter half of dinner the MCJ Concours d’Elegance Award Ceremony was held. Results were as follows:
GranPrix—Mr.Sakai (200Si)
Best Vintage Maserati—Mr.Komuro (GHIBLI)
Best "OTTO" Maserati—Mr. Kanemoto (Quattroporte4)
Best "SEI" Maserati—Mr. Uemura (Zagato Spyder)
SECOND DAY
We enjoyed a parade run at the lake side where we shot many nice photos and a video from our “high speed camera car”—a Maserati Spyder —thanks to the good response of its great engine and transmission. After the parade run, We enjoyed a delicious Italian lunch including a beautiful big MASERATI dolce. This time was a kind of “knot” of our 15th anniversary event. MCJ has been undergoing reorganization and changes to our governing board will improve our activities. We believe the organization of MCJ will be firmer and every member will enjoy all of Italian culture.
