Over 8,000 attend Ferrari's Family Day 2008

More than 8,000 people streamed through the Ferrari gates today for Family Day, Ferrari's annual open day for its employees and their families. Ferrari employs a staff of over 2,700 people and these were given the opportunity to invite their families to visit their workplace, which also happens to be an international reference point in terms of quality working environment, safety, environmental friendliness, energy-saving and worker-oriented policies.
In the course of the day, President Luca di Montezemolo also officially opened the new Car Assembly Line building designed by French architect Jean Nouvel. This is the location of the production lines on which the new Ferrari California, the Prancing Horse's first ever mid-front-engined 8-cylinder model, will be built. The new car was given its world preview contemporaneously in two different physical locations two days ago - Maranello at a ceremony attended by the President, Ferrari drivers Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa and Michael Schumacher who took an active part in its development, and Los Angeles in the presence of Vice President Piero Ferrari and California's Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. The event was also watched live on the www.ferraricalifornia.com website by over a million visitors.

President Montezemolo also presented prizes today to employees who suggested the names chosen for the two new Ferrari company restaurants, Il Podio (The Podium) at the Maranello complex and La Scocca (The bodyshell)in the Carrozzeria Scaglietti at Modena.
Visitors were also allowed access to the GES Division and to the GT production area which includes the Scaglietti facility in Modena. Technical staff explained the production processes and the details of each of the Technological Areas and provided demonstrations of the various tasks performed in each one too.
The following areas were also open to the families for the first time:
- The Drivers' Area where the new cars are test-driven
- The F1 Clienti Division
- The new Personalisation Atelier dedicated to the marque's clients
- The Ferrari Classiche Division to which historic cars are sent for authenticity certification and restoration where necessary
- The new Linea 149 (near the Carrozzeria Scaglietti) where the bodyshells for the new Ferrari California are made.
All of the registered visitors also received complimentary access to the Galleria Ferrari.
