F430 - Winning at the weekend

Maranello (Modena), 21st July 2008

Once again the F430 were front runners in prestigious Grand Touring races, as well as the third round of the US Ferrari Challenge at Mont Tremblant (Quebec,Canada) at the first of two Ferrari Racing days taking place in the United States.

In the fifth round of the American Le Mans Series, held at the Mid-Ohio (Lexington, Ohio) victory in the GT2 class went to the F430 of Dominik Farnbacher and Dirk Muller, very much down to an impeccable strategy, ahead of three Porsches and the Ferrari of Mika Salo-Jaime Melo (Risi Competizione,) that finished fifth at the end of a race filled with the unexpected. The Tafel Racing crew gained valuable points which sees it move into second place in the classification of this spectacular championship, which will be back in action at Mosport (Bowmanville, Ontario) over the weekend of 24th August.

At Mugello, the F430 GT2 dominated both races in the fifth round of the Italian Gran Tourismo Championship: at the end of Race 1, the top step of an all-red podium was occupied by Matteo Bobbi and Alex Frassinetti: the GPC Sport team took its first win of the season ahead of the duos of Linoss-Maurizio Mediani (Racing Team Edil Cris) and Vito Postiglione-Mattia Pavoni (Easy Race). The second Ferrari triple consisted of Massimiliano Busnelli-Gabriele Lancieri (Playteam Sarafree) first, ahead of Marco Cioci-Piergiuseppe Perazzini (Megadrive) and Alex Caffi-Emanuele Moncini (Villorba Corse.) The latter head the standings with a two point lead over Busnelli-Lancieri and Cruz Martins (Autorlando Sport Porsche 997). The next round of the Italian series takes place on 14th September at the Misano circuit.

On the Canadian Mont Tremblant circuit in the Stars and Stripes edition of the Challenge, victory went to Canada's Patrice Brisebois (Ferrari Quebec,) followed home by fellow countryman Lawrence Stroll (Ferrari Quebec) and the American Roberto Fata (Ferrari of Long Island,) who maintains his grip at the head of the leader board. In the Historic Challenge, on the grid for cars with disc brakes, Lawrence Stroll and his 512 M Sunoco took the flag ahead of Jim Fuchs (512 BB/LM) and John Giordano (512 S;) while the grid for drum braked cars saw victory go to Peter Giddins (Alfa Romeo Tipo C) from Peter Greenfield (Alfa Romeo 8C/35 and Peter Le Saffre (Maserati 300S). Over the weekend, the FI Clienti operation organised two sessions of free laps for the six single seaters present, as well as eight cars enrolled in the FXX programme. At the end of each session, owners and engineers then studied the telemetry, with great feedback from the evolution kit, fitted to seven of the cars. The second United States Ferrari Days is scheduled for the weekend of 10th August, at the Laguna Seca (Monterey, California) circuit.
