Guinness World Record for Ferrari at Silverstone

Silverstone, 10 June 2007

The Ferrari Racing Days event ended today at the circuit which, back on 14 July 1951 saw the first ever win for a Ferrari in the Formula 1 World Championship with Froilan Gonzalez at the wheel of a 375 F1.

The Silverstone weekend was also a further opportunity to celebrate the Maranello marque's sixtieth anniversary, marked by setting a new Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of Ferraris, with 385 Prancing Horse cars turning out at the English circuit. Among them were forty F40s, which marked the twentieth anniversary of this model by parading around the track.

The European series of the Ferrari Challenge Pirelli Trophy and the Shell Ferrari Historic Challenge today staged their second races of the weekend. In the main class of the one make series for the F430 cars, Bruno Senna (guest driver for Ferrari GB Dealer Team) finished first, followed by Giacomo Piccini (Motor) , Ange Barde (Stradale Automobile) and Michael Cullen (Rossocorsa.) Among the gentlemen drivers in the Shell Cup, the winner was Ronnie Kessel (Kessel Racing) who beat Michael Cantillon (Ferrari GB Dealer Team) and Thomas Wille (Kessel Racing.)

In the Shell Ferrari Historic Challenge, which since 1999 has also been open to Maserati cars, first place in Grid A went to Stefan Schollwoeck, while Irvine Laidlaw took the top slot in Grid B (sports prototypes and GT cars fitted with drum brakes,) after the win in Race 1 yesterday. In Group C (cars with disc brakes,) the 1972 Ferrari 312 PB of Irvine Laidlaw came out on top in both races.

There was more spectacular action on track thanks to a demonstration of historic single-seaters prepared by the Maranello F1 Clienti department and by the FXX cars driven by the Ferrari "Owner Test Drivers."

The next event for Ferrari Corse Clienti is scheduled to take place over the weekend of 17 June, with the Italian series of the Ferrari Challenge Pirelli Trophy, at the Roman Vallelunga circuit.
