Ferrari Formula 1 and F430 Challenge on track at Monza


Today, the Monza circuit staged qualifying for the Italian Ferrari Challenge Pirelli Trophy in this the third round of the 2007 championship.

Also in action on the Lombardy circuit were the single seaters prepared by the Maranello F1 Clienti department, putting on their first demonstration of the weekend. No less than sixteen cars took part, and of particular note are the ex-Ascari 1953 500 F2 and seven examples of cars driven by Michael Schumacher during his career with the Prancing Horse.

In the one-make series, using the F430, Lorenzo Bontempelli (Rossocorsa) and Vito Postiglione (Motor / Malucelli) set the quickest times in the two qualifying sessions, heading Gianluca Giraudi (Motor/Malucelli) and Ivan Capelli (Rossocorsa / Pellin) respectively. In the Shell Cup for gentlemen drivers, quickest was Giorgio Massazza (Rossocorsa.)

Going into tomorrow's races, the classification in the main category is headed by Postiglione with a five point lead over Niki Cadei (Rossocorsa,) while top of the Shell Cup order is Sando Mucelli (Stile F Service,) who leads Massazza by a single point.

Sky Italy will be exclusively transmitting this fifteenth running of the Italian Ferrari Challenge Pirelli Trophy and tomorrow, it will carry live coverage on SKY Sport Extra the first race on the card at 10.40 and the second at 14.10, with replays of both on SKY Sport 2 at 24.15 on Monday 21 May.
