Montezemolo: "The winless period has gone on too long"

The President of Ferrari, Luca di Montezemolo, addressed the media present at Mugello to cover the Ferrari World Finals 2005.

"It is a day to celebrate", declared the president. "This is both for the economic and commercial results reached this year. We are in line to beat the all time Ferrari sales records and, at the same time, opening in many important markets. We have never sold as much in the USA as we have in 2005".

Alongside Montezemolo in the Press Room at the International Autodrome of Mugello were the Scuderia drivers, vice-president Piero Ferrari and Fiat's vice-president John Elkann. Montezemolo thanked Rubens Barrichello for the crucial job he has done since the Brazilian arrived at Ferrari in 2000. "I have special memories of the three races that meant a lot for this company: Germany in 2000, when he won from the back of the field; Monza in 2002 among the crowds and last year in China. Rubens has always been a fundamental part of the Ferrari family. Michael has always been on the front line", continued Montezemolo, turning to Schumacher, "and has proved that we are a real team that remains tightly knit even in trying times".

He concluded by reflecting on the future of Formula 1 and Ferrari's chances next year. "I don't like the regulations. They are dangerous as regards the tyres and this has been seen often this year. In the interests of the sport, safety and respect for the public, I hope that new rules that are more in line with the spirit of F1 come along".

"I would like to compliment Renault, Fernando Alonso and Flavio Briatore for a great and merited victory. What has happened has already been forgotten as the challenge is the only thing in our DNA. We will fight to get back to the top with the support of our suppliers in a Formula 1 that has put tyres at the centre of everything. The winless period has gone on for too long for our liking".
