Maserati among the favourites at the 6 Hours of Vallelunga

16/11/2006 - Vallelunga

The classic end-of-season endurance race, the 6 Hours of Vallelunga Gold Cup, will be run this weekend.

The Maserati MC12 taking part in the GT1 class will again be fielded by Racing Box and will once more be among the favourites for the race. Overall winner in 2005 with Mastracci/Maddalena/Serafini, the Trident berlinetta will be lining up with an untried crew of Marco Cioci, Piergiuseppe Perazzini and Pedro Lamy. Lamy is an ex-Formula 1 driver who has made the successful switch to covered wheel racing. Although the grid will include prototypes, the MC12 is rightly viewed as one of the favourites. The reliability of the Maserati GT1 will be fundamental in a demanding race like the 6 Hour.

Four Maseratis have been entered in the event. In the GT3 class there are two AF Corse Lights to be driven by Vito Rinaldi / Lucio Iezzi / Mariano Bellin and Gabriele Mezzini / Roberto Conte. In the Trofeo Maserati, two GranSports fielded by Scuderia Giudici will compete. In one will be Alessandro Nannini, one of the celebrities of the 2006 race who will team up with Gianni Giudici and Beppe Arlotti. The other car will have Marco Maranelli, ‘Blu Max’ and Carlo Mursia sharing the drive.

The two free practice stints will be held on Saturday morning with the sole one hour qualifying session timed for the afternoon. The race will be run on Sunday at 10.00.
