After Mugello, the FIA GT championship is this weekend being held in Italy for the second this season. The ninth and penultimate round of the season will be held at Adria with the closing race taking place in Dubai (United Arab Emirates). Qualifying was run today, Saturday 14 October, and saw Andrea Bertolini (paired with Michael Bartels) in the Maserati MC12 just miss out on pole in taking a place on the second row on the grid with the third best time (1'11"437). On the front row is Janis-Bert-Montermini (Saleen S7R, 1'11"304) and Piccini-Deletraz (Aston Martin DBR9, 1'11"392). The second Vitaphone Racing Team Maserati MC12 will start from row four. Behind the wheel will be Jamie Davies and Thomas Biagi (seventh fastest time in qualifying of 1'11"739 clocked by Biagi).
Bertolini could have been on pole had his fast lap in the Maserati not been hindered by a slower car in the final bends at the tortuous Adria circuit. Overtaking is very hard at the track and the Trident was weighed down with an extra 55 kilos of ballast.

Having won the team title with two races to go thanks to the Vitaphone Racing Team, Maserati could also claim the drivers' title at Adria courtesy of Andrea Bertolini, the Trident company's official tester, and Michael Bartels, the championship leader. Bartels enjoys a nine point lead over Piccini, Deletraz and Bert, ten over Janis and twenty over Babini.

The race will get underway tomorrow (Sunday 15 October) at 13.30 and the chequered flag will be shown at 16.30.
