Final at Vallelunga for the Italian GT

The autodrome of Vallelunga, recently named after the great champion Piero Taruffi, will this weekend host the last round of the Sara GT Campionato Italiano Gran Turismo.
Toni Vilander and Giambattista Giannoccaro, drivers of the Maserati MC12 fielded by Playteam Sara Free, will go into the last round of the season with the mathematical certainty that they have claimed the GT1 class of the Italian championship thanks to the one-two claimed at Mugello on 1 October.
With ten wins and two second places, the Italo-Finn crew have had an almost perfect year. The Italian champions will be hoping to sign off in style and repeat the one-two secured at Vallelunga at the end of May in the third race of the series.
Behind Giannoccaro and Vilander in the overall classification is Luca Cappellari and his Racing Box Maserati MC12. The car has seen him round off the Trident's domination of the 2006 Italian GT. Together with Miguel Ramos he took race 2 at Misano and race 1 at Magione. Flanked by Piergiuseppe Perazzini he claimed race 2 at Monza. Perazzini will again be alongside Cappellari at Vallelunga.
Official qualifying will take place on Saturday at 14.35 and 16.55 with the two one-hour races timed for Sunday at 10.40 and 16.10.
