BRITISH GT - 23/09/2006 Scuderia Ecosse Take Top Spot for Silverstone 2-Hour British GT Race.

Tim Mullen and Chris Niarchos (Scuderia Ecosse Ferrari 430) will start from pole position for the second 2-hour Avon Tyres British GT race of the year after taking posting the quickest time in the combined two 15-minute qualifying sessions.  Ian Flux and Kevin Riley will be alongside them in the Rollcentre Mosler and championship rivals Luke Hines and Tom Kimber-Smith will line up behind the Ferrari.

The quickest GT3 car is the Barwell Aston Marton DBRS9 of Jonathan Cocker and Leo Machitsky in 5th overall behind the Damax Ascari KZ1R of Aaron Scott and Andrew Thompson, which has been placed in the Invitation Class for this event.  Machitsky's only rivals for the GT3 crown, George MacKintosh and Sam Blogg (Lotus Sport Cadena Exige) were well down the grid 23rd overall and 9th in class, which leaves them a lot to do in tomorrow's race if they are to beat the mighty Aston Martin to the GT3 crown.

In GTC, the fastest car of the combined session was the JMH Ferrari of Adam Wilcox and Phil Burton in 9th overall.  The closest GTC class car to the Ferrari is the RPM Porsche 996 of Peter Bamford and Matt Griffin in 14th overall, 1.1 seconds adrift.  2006 race winners Alex Mortimer and Bradley Ellis is just behind in 15th overall but the two championship rivals, Ryan Hooker / Phil Keen and Matt Allison /Jonny Lang are in 16th and 18th overall (4th and 5th in class) respectively if it stays like that at the end of the race Ryan Hooker would take the title from his rivals.

Tim Mullen:  "It seems to be that you only get one lap to get your time in and in the first session I went out first.  The Mosler and the Panoz are so fast in a straight line and I had a nice bit of clear track in front of me starting my first flying lap and Ian Flux drove straight past me as if I was stopped.  The wily old fox got a good lap in early on.  We'd had very little running in the dry and the car had too much oversteer, so we made some adjustments ahead of the second session which seemed to have worked.  It's important to be at the front and I'm glad we're the ones there."

The Silverstone 2-hour race starts tomorrow (Sunday 24th September) at 13:50.
