The nr 9 Zakspeed Saleen continues to set the pace in the FIA GT Championship, with the fastest lap in the first free practice of the seventh round, taking place in Mugello this weekend.  Andrea Montermini, back in the car alongside Sascha Bert and  Jarek Janis this weekend, set a time of  1:49.300 around the 5.2450 km circuit, ahead of the nr 5 Phoenix Racing Aston Martin DBR9, with the nr 2 Vitaphone Maserati MC 12 third.  The nr 33 Race Alliance Aston Martin with fourth, with new entrant Playteam fifth.  "It's nice to be back in the car, and it went well right away," Montermini explained.  The Italian knows the track well, having raced here on many occasions, and tested in Formula One when he was testing for Ferrari. 
In GT2, the nr 59 AF Corse Ferrari 430 GT2 of Salo and Aguas led a quartet of Ferrari cars, with the nr 75 Ebimotors Porsche fifth.
The second free practice will take place tomorrow morning.
