The second Italian stage of the Trofeo Audemars Piguet Maserati Europa (after Monza) will be the sixth and penultimate round of the season. Twenty two Maserati GranSport Trofeos and 32 drivers will be competing. Among these is the provisional leader of the single-make series, the Anglo-Italian Maurizio Fabris. He is in battle with the second placed driver overall Alberto Cerrai, winner of the last round held at the Belgian Spa- Francorchamps circuit. Also on the virtual podium is young Niccolò Oddi, paired here with Giacomo Ricci. Next is Antonio Andolfato.
There will be some big names lining up for the race. These include ex-Formula 1 driver Ivan Capelli (Toora VIP car, with RAI .Easy Driver. tester, Massimo Arduini, for company). Mediaset reporter for .Striscia la Notizia., Jimmy Ghigne, will be in the Autosprint car flanked by journalist Alberto Sabbatini. The Audemars Piguet car will have Yves Denis and Philippe Liechti at the wheel. Jean Coulomb will drive the West Europe car, Andrea Demegni will represent Pakelo, while the Isoclima car will have ex-rally driver Gianmarino Zenere at the wheel. At the end of today.s first hour of testing, the pairing of Diego Alessi and Enrico Galeazzi (2.05.060) was very quick. They beat Alberto Cerrai (2.05.357) into second with Capelli-Arduini (2.05.835) in third. Qualifying will be held tomorrow, Saturday 17 September, at 14.35.
