The first of the two races in the fourth and penultimate round of the European GT3 championship was held today, Saturday 2 September. The AF Corse Maserati GranSport Lights are competing in the race. Roberto Sperati and Andrea Palma came home 13th overall. In 26th were Mariano Bellin and Roberto Conte with Benedetto Marti and Lorenzo Casč in 28th. After an hour of racing, the podium places were claimed by Blanchemain-Bornhauser (Dodge Viper), Ceccato-Livio (Dodge Viper) and MacHitsky-Cocker (Aston Martin).
It was a positive result for Sperati-Palma's Maserati. They battled it out with their Ferrari and Porsche adversaries (the only other cars sharing the Trident's class). Only Keen-Edwards (Porsche 997 GT3) and Lester-Daoudi (Ferrari 430) finished ahead of Sperati-Palma. The Maserati crew saw off seven other German cars and four from Maranello.

Race two will be held tomorrow, Sunday 3 September, from 11.10 to 12.10.

Roberto Sperati
"It was a great race. It was a better result than he hoped for as we started from a little down the grid. I had my stint first and tried to stay out of trouble, keeping clear of the group in front of me. This meant that I avoided running off the track, something that happened to Benedetto Marti. He could do nothing about it as two drivers spun ahead of him and, in order to avoid them, he went into the sand and lost a few places. I hope to do just as well in the race tomorrow".

Lorenzo Casč
"We needed a little more luck. A few minutes from the end I had to come into the pits as a part of the bonnet from another car had become lodged in my grille. This meant that the water temperature rose. I am hoping for good things in race two".

Mariano Bellin
"As this is my first year in a Maserati, I am very satisfied. I like the GranSport. It responds well in curves though here it had a touch of understeer. However, all three cars finished the race, with Palma and Sperati claiming a fine position".
