HODGSON ON PROVISIONAL FRONT ROW IN VIRGINIA

Alton (Virginia) 18 Aug 2006: Parts Unlimited Ducati's Neil Hodgson qualified third in Friday's preparations for the Virginia International Raceway Superbike Nationals. Hodgson put in a superb lap of 1:25.873 in the session, a mark that put him on the provisional front row. Hodgson's teammate Ben Bostrom qualified with a time of 1:26.612 on his Ducati Superbike.
The former World Superbike champion fought for traction on the 2.25-mile (3.22-kilometer) circuit and was able to encourage the Ducatisti rooting for Hodgson as he moved up the time charts. While several riders were crashing or running off course, Neil was able to concentrate and have a productive session at the track.
"It was a pretty good day," said Hodgson. "Things are going pretty well so far. We're looking for more time like everyone else. I was quick this morning, which is positive because we are closer to the front and started the weekend on a good note. The track really doesn't have a lot of grip right now and it's tough finding time in the lap at the moment. We have a good direction and think we'll be able to improve our time and hopefully our spot in the order tomorrow."
Ben Bostrom was 12th in qualifying, but the Californian was within a half second of the front row in what he characterized as a positive day. "It's coming along pretty well. In the morning I was a little slow because we haven't been here in a while, but we dropped a second from our time in the afternoon," said Ben Bostrom. "This is a fun track for the rider and we're looking forward to sleeping on it tonight and then coming back tomorrow for qualifying and the race."
Tomorrow's 28-lap race begins at 4:00 local time.
