VALENTINO wins again

Valentino Rossi reached new heights with Gauloises Yamaha, taking his eleventh win of the season in the Polini Australian Grand Prix. The 2005 World Champion fended off the challenge of pole man Nicky Hayden, who moved to second overall by finishing on the rostrum for the second time in a fortnight.

Behind the Italian and the American, Ducati Marlboro’s Carlos Checa snatched third position in a thrilling dice with Marco Melandri, while Sete Gibernau took the flag in fifth.

Rossi’s team-mate Colin Edwards was a distant sixth, having crossed the line 33.2s adrift from the winner. Shinya Nakano won the three-way battle for seventh ahead of Toni Elias and Makoto Tamada, while John Hopkins managed to beat MotoGP newcomer Chris Vermeulen to complete the top 10.
