Cerrai immediatly into his stride in free practice at Spa

The fifth round of the Trofeo Audemars Piguet Maserati Europa will take place on the tough Spa-Francorchamps circuit.
The race will be run on the same weekend as the famous FIA GT championship 24 Hour. Twenty eight drivers from five countries will do battle in the Maserati GranSport Trofeos on the Ardennes track. Free practice took place today, Thursday 27 July.
Alberto Cerrai, set a top time of 2'38"456. The second fastest time was assigned after a tight duel that involved Maurizio Fabris, Andrea Demegni, Niccolò Oddi (paired with Giacomo Ricci) Antonio Andolfato, Giorgio Bartocci and the Marc Goossens-Frank Boulat pairing. As the hour long session came to an end, the second quickest time was secured by youngsters Oddi and Ricci (2'39"199).
Next came Fabris (2'39"532). Demegni, in the Pakelo VIP car, edged out Andolfato and Bartocci after much swapping of positions. The Toora VIP car, with Goossens at the wheel, also performed well. The Belgian was making his first appearance in a Trident car but has experience of GT, GrandAm and Nascar events. Boulat did well to finish ahead of the Maserati West Europe car with Bourgan and the famous Belgian singer, Chris Wauters, on board.
A special mention mention has to go to guest driver, Jamie Constable. He won the 2005 Catheram Euro Cup and will be partnered here by top model Jodie Kidd.
Maurizio Fabris (who won at Spa last year) still leads overall and enjoys a big advantage over Cerrai and Demegni.
Qualifying will take place tomorrow - Friday 28 July - from 13.30 to 14.15; the 60 minute race will start on Saturday 29 July at 10.20.
