Ferrari also wins with the F430 GTC in the American Le Mans Series

This past weekend, Ferrari took an important victory in the field of international GT racing. In the Grand Prix of Utah, held at the Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, in an event counting towards the 2006 American Le Mans Series, the Risi Competizione team's F430 GTC won the prestigious and closely contested GT2 class. The crew of Finland's Mika Salo, a former Scuderia Ferrari driver and Brazil's Jaime Melo, the GT test driver for the Corse Clienti department in Maranello, crossed the line in its class ahead of the Porsches of Bergmeister/Long and Henzler/Van Overbreek, while the lead in the general classification is in the hands of Italy's Emanuele Pirro and the German Frank Biela in their Audi prototype. For the new Ferrari F430 GTC, developed by the Prancing Horse company in collaboration with Michelotto Automobili, it was the maiden victory in the American series, having made its competition debut in the Sebring 12 Hours at the start of the season, where it immediately secured a class podium. Salo and Melo, who are also achieving great results in the FIA GT championship at the wheel of the sister cars of the AF Corse di Amato Ferrari team, put on a great climb up the order from the back of the grid, having changed tyres prior to the start: "I was pretty cautious in the opening laps," said Melo. "Then I began to push to go into the lead and the car went very well.
"It's true!" continued Salo. "We just need a bit more speed down the straights, but in the corners, the car is really incredible in a positive way." The F430 will be part of the traditional parade that closes the Prancing Horse's race season, the Ferrari World Finals, which this year takes place at the Monza circuit, over the weekend of 29 October, when Michael Schumacher, Felipe Massa and the entire Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro will also be on track for the usual salute to the fans. Furthermore, this coming weekend, the Fiorano circuit hosts a "soap box" race for vehicles without engines, fitted with bicycle wheels, for members of the Scuderia Ferrari Club.
