Double pole at Monza for Vilander/Giannoccaro

08/07/2006 - Monza

Vilander/Giannoccaro’s MC12 (Playteam Sara Free) will start from pole in both Italian GT championship races tomorrow. The Racing Box MC12s, driven by Perazzini/Cappellari, also performed well to take second in the two sessions.

In the first session, to decide the order for race 1, Toni Vilander, drove an exceptional series of laps. He steadily lowered his times to a best of 1’46”698 at an average of 195.456 km/h. This lap time secured him pole position. Alongside him on the front row will be Piergiuseppe Perazzini, who qualified the Racing Box MC12 in 1’48”588 (average speed of 192.054 km/h).

The second stint witnessed a tight duel between Giambattista Giannoccaro and Luca Cappellari. Giannoccaro came through in the end and stopped the clock at 1’48”185 (average 192.769 km/h), just 0”148 faster than Cappellari (1’48”333, average of 192.506 km/h).

For the record, the CSAI has decided to zero the ballast allocations in the GT1 class since all the cars appearing at Monza have reached the 100kg limit. This, obviously, will allow the Maserati drivers to fully exploit the characteristics of the MC12 on a fast track like Monza.

In GT3, the AF Corse Maserati GranSport Light driven by Carmelo Scionti and Roberto Sperati will start from seventh in both races. In the second session, the Trident car was 1”5 seconds faster than in the first official qualifying session.

The two 55 minute races will take place tomorrow at 12 and at 16.30. The events will be transmitted live by the Mediaset Premium digital terrestrial network.
