Ferrari Challenge on track at Monza this weekend

This weekend the Monza circuit hosts the fifth round of the Italian Ferrari Challenge Pirelli Trophy and the fourth meeting of the European version of the same one-make series. Both 2006 series feature the F430 and are run over six events prior to concluding as part of the Ferrari World Finals, back here at Monza on 25 to 29 October, when also in action will be the Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro for its usual end of season salute to its fans.

In the Italian series, Andrea Belluzzi (Motor) still leads the Pirelli Trophy, with Giuseppe Ciro (Motor/Malucelli) and the crew of Livio/Montani (Rossocorsa) in second and third places respectively.
Currently heading the Shell Cup classification for gentlement drivers is the duo of Sauto/Prinoth (Ineco,) ahead of Cristian Francescon (Forza Service) and Massimo Mantovani (Stile F.) Lorenzo Bontempelli (Rossocorsa) still holds a solid lead in the separate category for the 360 Modena cars, that still eligible this year for the Prancing Horse championship.

France's Ange Barde (Modena Cars Racing) leads the European classification of the Pirelli Trophy, from Dutchman John Bosch (Barron Racing/Kroymans) and British driver Ross Kaiser (Ferrari GB Dealer Team,) while the Shell Cup currently sees the top three spots going to Switzerland's Ettore Contini (Kessel Racing,) Germany's Dennis Huebner (Baron Service) and the Anglo-Irish duo of Flux/Coleman (Kessel Racing.)
The German Bjorn Grossman (G2 Racing/Gohm) heads up the 360 Modena category.

The programme gets underway tomorrow, Friday 7 July, with the first practice sessions for the endurance races on Saturday and Sunday. The rules of the competition provide for compulsory pit stops, aimed at ensuring spectacle and excitement even in pit lane.

Also taking place this weekend at the Lombardy circuit, the Italian Gran Turismo series that sees the participation of the Ferrari 575 GTC and the F430 GTC.

Members of the Scuderia Ferrari Club can purchase reduced price admission tickets, with the added opportunity for some of them to do some demonstration laps of the track.
