BRITISH GT - SILVERSTONE

Nathan Kinch and Andrew Kirkaldy secured their tenths win of the British GT Championship season with victory in the opening race of the final meeting of the year at Silverstone. Having started from pole position, Kinch established a lead during the opening stint of a race held in wet and tricky conditions, but was never able to totally shake off Neil Cunningham in the Embassy Racing Porsche who kept himself within ten seconds of the Ferrari for the majority of his time behind the wheel. However the Embassy team would be hit with a stop/go penalty for not making its driver change within the allotted time period – a penalty which would ultimately cost them any chance of repeating the victory from the LMES meeting earlier this year.

The Embassy car would eventually finish third behind Kinch and Kirkaldy and the sister car of Tim Mullen and Chris Niarchos, who strengthened their grip on second place in the standings with the result. Cunningham and team-mate Ben Collins were able to benefit from a safety car period caused when Paul Mace crashed into the abandoned car of Fred Moss which had crashed out shortly after David Ashburn had pitted from the GT3 class lead after a strong display in the opening half of the race which had seen the Trackspeed run machine inside the top six overall.

Fourth place went to the Godfrey Jones/David Jones Porsche, with the second Eurotech car of Michael Caine and Mike Jordan fifth. However the result remains provisional following an incident between Caine and Collins on the final lap of the race when the pair were dicing for third.

Victory in the GT3 class went the way of James Murphy and Ian McKellar Jr in the Tech 9 Porsche, while Martin Rich and Julian Westwood took the Invitational class honours – both cars finishing inside the top ten overall.
