The fourth round of the Sara GT Italian Gran Turismo championship was held today (Sunday 11 June) at Magione. Once again the Maserati MC12s fielded by Racing Box and Playteam Sara Free competed with their crews of Miguel Ramos-Luca Cappellari and Toni Vilander-Gianbattista Giannoccaro. The MC12s came in first in both races courtesy of Ramos-Cappellari and then Vilander-Giannoccaro.

In race 2, the Ramos-Cappellari car, that took pole in both races, outclassed the Saleen driven by Montermini-Bontempelli and the Ferrari 575 GTC with Chiesa-Kessel on board. Vilander and Giannoccaro had an unfortunate time as, on lap 20 when challenging for the lead, they ran off the track when attempting to overtake Montermini-Bontempelli. The incident led to the failure of their suspension system and left them out of the points.

However, the Playteam Sara Free drivers made up for things in race 2 as they claimed their fifth win of the season. Ramos-Cappellari came home second, ahead of third placed Montermini-Bontempelli.

This result sees Vilander and Giannoccaro lengthen their lead at the top of the overall GT1 championship standings over Kessel and Chiesa.
