2006 » GT Italia » Valleunga - Third Italian GT event at Vallelunga: the two MC12s aiming for victory

The third round of the Sara GT Campionato Italiano Gran Turismo will take place this weekend at Vallelunga. Two Maserati MC12s will line up on the grid, fielded by Play Team Sara Free (the team that were champions in GT2 class in 2005) and Racing Box.

The Trident cars are already in a fine position after the opening races with two wins (race 1 at Imola on 26 March, race 1 at Misano on 14 May). Maserati also secured second in race 2 at Misano. The Play Team Sara Free drivers, Toni Vilander and Gianbattista Giannoccaro, hold top spot overall with 55 points, three more than their nearest rivals. At Vallelunga the two will be out to further increase their lead heading into the championship's closing stages, once again at Vallelunga on 15 October.

Luca Cappellari and Miguel Ramos, driving the Racing Box MC12, scored their first victory (and their first points) of the season at Misano after a run of bad luck. The Portuguese driver Ramos will be substituted by Piergiuseppe Perazzini this time around. Perazzini shared the drive with Gabriele Matteuzzi in 2005 in the Racing Box MC12.

There will by two qualifying sessions on Saturday in this third round of the season (13.30 and 15.30). The two hour-long races will be beamed live by the Mediaset terrestrial digital channel and will take place on Sunday at 12.45 and 16.50.
