Cerrai chasing the title in Valencia

Cerrai has scored three wins on prestigious and demanding circuits like Barcelona, Silverstone and Nuerburgring, and has always made it onto the podium. He is a Trofeo veteran as this is his third series. Also with lots of experience is Hans Notter and Max Cattori, though two years ago they did not team up. The two challenged for the ultimate prize last year with Palma and this year hoped to go one better but, for now, they find themselves behind Cerrai.
At the end of the afternoon's free practice, the guest team of Marcel Costa/Francesco De Beaumont had set the best time (1'47"147) in the Pirelli VIP car. They edged out the qualifying specialists Francesco Ravasio/Diego Alessi (1'47"302) and Alberto Cerrai (1'48"031). In fourth spot came Maurizio Fabris (1'48"517). He clocked a time just a little faster than the SportItalia VIP car, with David Serra Cervera/Fabio Francia (1'48"890) on board, and Notter/Cattori (1'48"962). Alberto Vescovi also came in the top ten, shading GianMarinoZenere/Tetsuya Harada, Andrea De Megni and Walter Forer.

Making an appearance among the guest drivers is Marcel Costa, the 2002 Spanish F3 champion and winner of the French Formula Campus in 1997. His partner, Francesco De Beaumont is a member of the Italian Automobile Federation. David Serra Cervera, is the Secretary of the Spanish Ministry of Sport, while Fabio Francia, is the son of the ex-driver Giorgio Francia. He is also one of the stars of the Italian Sport Prototype Championship and has a sparkling competition record.

In the Toora VIP car come the journalists Victor Seara and Jacobo Vega. Disputing their second race in the Trofeo Maserati, after their debut at Nuerburgring, will be the young Germans Katie Droste and Mario Kossmehl in the Vitaphone VIP Car. The qualifying sessions to decide the starting grid will be held tomorrow. The race is programmed for 10.20 on Sunday.
