The Alfa Spider acclaimed "cabrio of the year"

A fortunate debut for the Alfa Spider which, immediately after its world preview at the Geneva Motor Show. has receiv’d another exceptional accolade. It has in fact been elected ‘Cabrio of the Year 2006’ by the Comité Cabriolet, a panel of 23 specialised journalists from 12 different countries. The title, reserved for newcomers with a price of not more than 40 thousand Euro, had already been awarded in 1995 to the Fiat Barchetta.
«Our brand – commented Antonio Baravalle, Alfa Romeo brand manager– has always proposed dream-come-true roadsters: from the Giulietta Spider of the Fifties to the Duetto, up to the model of the Nineties ». Therefore, the latest addition to the family follows in the footsteps of a great tradition. The Spider, derived from the fascinating Alfa Brera coupe, is a generously-scaled, elegant two-seater with a surprisingly spacious luggage compartment. The interior is comfortable, highly sophisticated and features top quality technological contents: from the automatic twin-zone climate control system to controls on the steering-wheel, from VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Control) to cruise control.

On sale from mid May, this roadster with its sleek, forceful design will be available in two versions. The powerunits and mechanicals are the same as those of the Brera: 2.2 185-bhp and 3.2 360-bhp JTS petrol engines, the latter also combined with an automatic transmission (available after the launch). Apart from its unmistakable Alfa temperament, the new model offers unmatched trip comfort and excellent dynamic performance, also promoted by its suspension system: double wishbone to the front and Multilink to the rear.
Without forgetting safety, guaranteed by state-of-the-art electronic devices for complete control of road behaviour. Another technological ‘perk’: the high level ‘Alfa Q4’ 4WD available on the 3.2 260-bhp version.
