Korean GP - Alonso third and Massa sixth in final free practice

Yeongam, 23 October

The third and final free practice session for the Korean Grand Prix, the seventeenth round of the Formula 1 World Championship has just come to an end at the brand new Yeongam circuit. Indeed, although brand new, it has already been modified since yesterday. Robert Kubica was fastest for Renault in 1.37.354, ahead of Lewis Hamilton in the McLaren (1.37.402) and the Ferrari of Fernando Alonso, third in 1.37.426. In the other F10, Felipe Massa was sixth in 1.37.955. The session was again affected by poor track conditions. Despite overnight modifications which saw the pit lane entry line being moved and a raising of the kerb at Turn 16, the track is difficult to assess because there is still hardly any grip. The two Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro cars ran with the blown rear wing and an updated floor. Both drivers did a first run on hard tyres and a second on the soft compound.

They will now tackle the all important qualifying session at two o’clock this afternoon, to decide the grid for Sunday’s race.
