Singapore GP - A complicated start on the streets of Singapore

Singapore, 24 September

The free practice session of the Singapore Grand Prix, round fifteen of the Formula 1 World Championship has just ended at the Marina Bay circuit. At the end of the ninety minutes at this unique street track, the results are hard to interpret, because rain fell in the early afternoon and the track remained dry in parts, wet in others. Mark Webber was quickest for Red Bull (1.54.589) ahead of the Mercedes of Michael Schumacher (1.54.708) and Adrian Sutil in the Force India (1.54.827.)

First of the two Ferraris was Fernando Alonso, eleventh in 1.56.090, while Felipe Massa ended the session in nineteenth place on the time sheet, with a best lap of 1.57.760. The poor track conditions made life complicated for the team as they set about their usual first session tasks, as well as doing an aerodynamic comparison run, with Fernando running the blown rear wing and Felipe running a conventional one. Both Ferrari men did their final run on hard tyres, with Fernando pitting for a quick nose change prior to that.

Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro are now preparing for the second night time session which gets underway at 21.30 local time.
