ALMS – Risi team on pole for Ferrari, but starts from the back

Maranello, 29 August

The Mosport track in Bowmanville, Ontario is hosting the eighth and penultimate round of the American Le Mans Series this weekend and the Ferrari entered by the Risi Competizione team took pole in the GT2 category. Thanks to a fantastic lap in 1.17.160 from Gimmi Bruni, the F430 entered by the Houston-based Ferrari squad was quickest ahead of the Porsche 911 of Joerg Bergmeister and Patrick Long (1.17.461) and the BMW M3 of Bill Auberlen and Tommy Milner (1.17.491.) However, the Ferrari will start from the back of the grid because Jaime Melo was forced to retire as he is not feeling at all well. Bruni who is substituting for the unlucky Pierre Kaffer who had an accident in free practice yesterday morning, will now be partnered by Toni Vilander, standing in for the lead Argentine driver, laid low yesterday with a viral infection.
The race takes place this afternoon as a two hour forty five minute sprint, starting at 15.05 local time
