Belgian GP - Testing for qualifying

Spa-Francorchamps, 27 August 2010

A palid sun lit up an exciting second free practice session for the Belgian Grand Prix, thirteenth round of the World Championship, which got underway today at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit. Fernando Alonso was again fastest on a track that gradually dried out during the ninety minutes, after this morning’s rain. The Ferrari man lapped in 1.49.032, the Spaniard thus reinforcing his fastest time in the morning, this time ahead of the Force India of Adrian Sutil (1.49.157) and Lewis Hamilton in the McLaren (1.49.248.)

Felipe Massa also put in a strong performance in the other F10, finishing fifth in 1.49.588. Extreme wets and intermediate tyres were used at first by Felipe, while Fernando only tried the intermediates. Both Ferrari men did only one run on the hard slicks and just a single lap and final lap on the softs, after the session was red flagged shortly before the end because of spectators standing in a dangerous place.

The engines will fire up again tomorrow at 11, for the third and final free practice session, before qualifying starts at two in the afternoon as usual.
