Spa 24 hours - A Ferrari on the podium

Maranello, 1 August 2010

An F430 GT2 finished on the podium in third place in the Spa 24 Hours, one of the oldest and most famous in the history of the sport, which this year was run for the sixty third time. Winner of the prestigious event which saw forty cars racing in GT2, GT3, GTN and GT4 categories, was the Porsche 911 of Romain Dumas-Jorg Bergmeister-Martin Ragginger-Wolf Henzler, ahead of the sister car of Raymond Narac-Patrick Long-Patrick Pilet-Richard Lietz.

Third in its category class and fifth overall, was the Ferrari entered by the AF Corse Ald Team Vitaphone team, in the hands of Michael Waltrip-Nicola Cadei-Robert Kauffman-Marco Cioci, while the team’s other F430, driven by Eric Van de Poele-Bert Longin-Toni Vilander-Gimmi Bruni, had to retire after an accident in the fourteenth hour. Van de Poele was at the wheel at the time, having started from the pole secured on Friday night: he was hit by the Audi R8 of Antony Kumpen and it was too badly damaged to continue, thus bringing an extraordinary performance to a premature end in the Ardennes.
