Barba and Kaffer’s Ferrari in firm command of GT Open


This weekend the drivers of the International GT Open Championship took to the French circuit of Magny-Cours for the year’s fifth round. Of the twelve F430 GT2s present in the important event, the best result was earned in Race 1 by the team of Enrico Toccacelo and Raffaele Giammaria (Edil Cris Racing Team). They ended up second, just behind the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR driven by Patrick Pilet and Raymond Narac. The third step of the podium went to championship leaders Alvaro Barba-Pierre Kaffer (AF Corse Ferrari) who dominated the race from pole position as far as lap 25. The Barba-Kaffer pairing also took third place in Race 2, collecting precious points to retain the lead of the championship. They are now eight points clear of the winners of the second race, Richard Lietz and Gianluca Roda’s Porsche and 22 ahead of Pilet and Narac, who came second. Enrico Toccacelo and Raffaele Giammaria took a satisfying fourth place, thereby consolidating their fourth place in the title race with a new total of 109 points. The prestigious Spanish series will next hit the track on the weekend of September 19 at the English circuit of Brands Hatch.
