ALMS – Stars and stripes debut

Almost two months after the previous round, held at California’s Laguna Seca circuit, yesterday competitors in the American Le Mans Series were back in action at the Miller Motorsports Park at Salt Lake City, for the fourth round of the season. On the start line of this popular America series is Giancarlo Fisichella “on loan” from the Le Mans series in which he races for the Italian AF Corse team and yesterday he took part in the test session that got the Utah Grand Prix weekend underway. Alongside him in this new experience is Toni Vilander, his team-mate from the European series and Jean Alesi. Fisichella took one of the two F430 GT2s entered by Risi Competizione to second place on the time sheet in 1.48.315, behind the Ferrari of Houston car crewed by Jaime Melo-Gimmi Bruni (1.47.442) and ahead of the Porsche 911 of Patrick Long-Joerg Bergmeister (1.48.534.) Qualifying takes place this afternoon to decide the starting grid for tomorrow’s race, a “sprint” over 2 hours and 45 minutes.
