The second session of free practice, which has just finished at the Istanbul Speed Park, was again dominated by McLaren, this time courtesy of Jenson Button.
The English driver set the fastest time (1.28.280) ahead of the Red Bulls of Mark Webber (1.28.378) and Sebastian Vettel (1.28.590).
At the end of the session, which was initially dedicated to different set-up solutions, the two Ferraris of Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa set the 5th (1.28.725) and 10th (1.29.620) fastest times. They completed 30 and 26 laps respectively.
The work carried out by the team was positive – both for performance and for long runs. A pity for Felipe, who suffered a spin at the fearsome Turn 8 – luckily without consequences – but who was not able to get the most out of the soft tyres. Fernando also suffered from traffic on his first flying lap with the soft compound.
The protagonists of this, the seventh round of the Formula 1 world championship, will return to the track tomorrow morning at 11am local time for the third and final practice in preparation for the decisive qualifying session – scheduled for 2pm as usual.
