Portimão: Ferrari Challenge fires up

Today, the Algarve International Circuit hosted qualifying for the second round of this season’s European Ferrari Challenge, ahead of Sunday’s races on the spectacular Portuguese track, which first witnessed a round of the Ferrari one-make series in 2009.
The first of the two qualifying session was dominated by series leader, Philipp Baron (Baron Service,) who took the first pole position of the day in the main Pirelli Trophy category, ahead of Max Blancardi (Motor/Malucelli) and Alexey Vasiliev (Ferrari Moscow.) In the Shell Cup, the fight for pole went in favour of Tibor Valint (Warm Up) who set the seventh fastest time overall, beating Oliver Morley (Motor/Malucelli) and Dennis Anderson (Formula Automobile.)
In the afternoon qualifying session, to decide the Grid for Race 2, it was Bjorn Grossmann (Autohaus Gohm) who came out on top, ahead of Jean-Marc Bachelier (Motor/Piacenza) and Philipp Baron (Baron Service.) Seventh overall for Oliver Morley (Motor/Malucelli) was good enough for pole in the Shell Cup for the gentleman drivers, followed by Tibor Valint (Warm Up) and Wido Roesseler (Baron Service.)
Tomorrow’s programme features two races of 40 minutes each, at 9.20 and 14.05, with both classes competing in the same race with different classifications. Prior to the start of Race 1, there will be a minute’s silence in memory of Loris Kessel, Ferrari driver and dealer.
