Montezemolo praises the team during the debrief

Maranello, 17 May

The traditional post-race debrief held this afternoon at the Gestione Sportiva racing department focused very much on the future. The analysis of the Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro team’s result at the Monaco Grand Prix had to take into consideration the episode that conditioned the outcome - Fernando Alonso’s accident during the Saturday morning practice session which prevented him taking part in qualifying. Naturally a fourth and a sixth place at the chequered flag was less than could have been expected at the start of the race weekend but, given what happened, it was a very positive result. This is what Chairman Luca di Montezemolo underlined during the meeting and he was keen to complement the whole team for what was achieved under less-than-ideal conditions, both in repairing the car and in defining the race strategy.

The team is already concentrated on the next race in Istanbul aware that while the performance shown at Monte-Carlo was of the highest level, there is still a margin for improvement. The F10’s development programme continues apace: Turkey should see the debut of an evolution of the management system of the blown rear wing and other important advances will be introduced by the end of June. But it is clear to all that the championship is at a crucial stage with several players in the running. During the meeting, which lasted over two hours, it was revealed that the chassis – number 283 -damaged during the accident on Saturday can no longer be used. At the moment it remains to be seen which chassis will be made available for Felipe and Fernando for the next Grand Prix.
