Chinese GP - A troubled session for Alonso

The Chinese GP weekend started this morning with the first free practice session for the fourth round of the Formula 1 World Championship taking place at the Shanghai International Circuit. The first appearance of the cars on track took place in somewhat milder conditions than the wintery cold that gripped the area on previous days. Jenson Button was the dominant driver in his McLaren, with a best time of 1.36.677, followed by the Mercedes of Nico Rosberg (1.36.748) and the other McLaren of Lewis Hamilton (1.36.775.) Felipe Massa was tenth in the Ferrari, in 1.38.098, completing 14 laps, while Fernando Alonso’s session ended early because of a problem on the engine, previously used for free practice and qualifying at the Bahrain GP, which the team had changed there because of some anomalies in its performance.
The engines will be fired up again for the second free practice session at 14h00 local time.
