Singapore GP - Debut in line with expectations

Singapore, 25 September 2009

The first free practice session for the Singapore Grand Prix was held without any surprises. The fastest cars on the track were the ones from Brawn, with Barrichello (1.50.179) ahead of Button (1.50.356). From the third to the fifth position there were two Renault engines, with Webber (1.50.416) ahead of Alonso (1.50.567) and Vettel (1.50.614).

The two Ferraristi Raikkonen (1.50.865) and Fisichella (1.52.390) drove the ninth and 17th fastest times respectively. No positive or negative surprises at all: the result is in line with what could be seen on the first days of the last Grands Prix. Both drivers mainly worked on the car’s set up, using just one set of hard tyres each: Kimi tried a slightly different aerodynamic set up compared to Giancarlo, who concentrated on getting to know the car on this windy and challenging track.

Remaining in line with what the newspapers have been writing about over the last days, a Renault had the only accident in the afternoon, when Grosjean drove into the barriers at the exit of the famous corner no. 17, the corner where Nelsinho Piquet’s accident happened last year.
