Ferrari takes Le Mans Series title and Triumphs in Spain

Maranello (Modena), 14th September 2009

A memorable weekend has just come to an end for the F430, competing in GT international races. Its performance in the Silverstone 1000 Km race was enough to give Ferrari the constructors’ title in the prestigious Le Mans Series, while there were also wins in another round of the Spanish GT championship.

In the fifth and final round of the Le Mans Series, held at Silverstone, Ferrari took the constructors’ cup, the second time the title has come its way in the two years that this prize has been awarded, thanks to a win for Robert Bell and Gianmaria Bruni, driving the car entered by JMW Motorsport. It was an amazing race: starting from second on the grid, they ended up sliding down the order after a particularly hectic start and then made up ground in the final two hours to catch and pass the Spyker C8 of Tom Coronel and Jarek Janis and the Porsche 997 of Patrick Pilet and Raymond to take the win, thus handing the much sought after title to the Prancing Horse marque, while finishing second in the class, missing out on first place by just one point.

At Spain’s Albacate circuit, the F430 GT2 cars dominated both races of the fourth round of Spanish GT Championship. At the end of Race 1, Peter Sundberg and Juan Manuel Lopez (Exakt Racing) stood on the top step of an all-Ferrari podium, ahead of Ricardo Bravo and Lourenço da Veiga (ASM Team) and Josep Mayola and Marc Carol (PCR Sport). In the second race, run in darkness, the Manuel Cerqueda and Alain Sicart car, entered by Automobil Club D’Andorra, managed to get the better of the Porsche of Miguel de Castro and the F430 of Ricardo Bravo and Lourenço da Veiga.
The next round of the Spanish series takes place at the Jerez de la Frontera circuit over the weekend of 18 October.
