On track with the Reds in Brno

The Czech crowd gave a warm welcome to the Ferrari Racing Days: on the final day of the event, held at the Masaryk Brno circuit, no less than 35,000 fans backed the grandstands to see the F430s in action in the Italian and European Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli, as well as the historic cars in the Shell Historic Challenge, as they tackled a busy race programme. Also on track for some free practice runs were historic single-seaters, run by the F1 Clienti department of Maranello.
In the Italian Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli, Giorgio Sernagiotto managed to come out on top once again in the second event, beating Marco Mapelli (Rossocorsa) and Andrea Belluzzi (Motor/Modena): thanks to this great double victory, the young Motor/Piacenza driver consolidates his lead in the classification. The same can be said for Stefano Gai, who by winning Race 2, confirms his place at the top of the order in the Coppa Shell, at the end of a race that duplicated the result of Race 1, with team-mates Tommaso Rocca and Massimo Mantovani (Motor/Malucelli) second and third respectively across the finish line.

The second race for those competing in the European one-make series saw Philipp Baron take the win he missed out on after Monza: crossing the line behind the Austrian Baron Service driver were Germany’s Bjorn Grossmann (Autohaus Gohm) and France’s Nicolas Misslin (Stradale Automobile), while among the gentleman drivers in the Coppa Shell, the top step of the podium was occupied by Hungary’s Csaba Spitzmueller (Warm Up) who beat France’s Stephane Clareton (Stradale Automobile) and the German Frank Gelf (Eberlein Kassel).

In the second race of the Shell Historic Challenge, in the Grid “A” + “B” race which combines cars with drum brakes and those with discs, victory went to Dieter Roschmann in his 1970 Ferrari 512 M, who crossed the line ahead of Darius Ahrabian, driving the incredible 1992 F40 LM and Larry Kinch at the wheel of a 1980 Ferrari 308 Michelotto GR4.
Marc Gené, Scuderia Ferrari’s official test driver, oversaw the owner-drivers on track today in the historic single-seaters run by the F1 Clienti department of Maranello: at the end of the first run of free practice, the Spaniard did a few laps in the F2008, the car that won last season’s Formula 1 Constructors’ champion championship and a Ferrari FXX, the laboratory car owned by seven times Formula 1 world champion, Michael Schumacher.
The European series of the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli and the historic single-seaters will be back on track at Valencia’s Ricardo Tormo Circuit from 25 to 27 September, alongside cars entered in the prestigious FXX programme, as well as the Spanish round of the Trofeo 500 Abarth. The sixth round of the Italian one-make series has a longer wait until it takes place in Vallelunga over the weekend of 11 November.
The second race from the Italian Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli will be shown, recorded, on Sky Sport 2 tonight at 20 and 23.45.
