The Challenge takes to the track in Brno

Today the Ferrari Racing Days got underway at the Masaryk Brno circuit, featuring the F430s entered in the fifth round of the Italian and European series of the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli and the historic jewels competing in the third round of the Shell Historic Challenge. Apart from the racing action, this amazing track also saw action from some legendary single-seaters, run by the F1 Clienti department of Maranello: Marc Gené, Scuderia Ferrari’s official test driver, oversaw the owner-drivers as they tackled four free practice sessions.
In the main category of the Italian Trofeo Pirelli, the first event ended in a win for Giorgio Sernagiotto: the standard bearer for the Motor/Piacenza team came home ahead of Andrea Belluzzi (Motor/Modena) and his team-mate, Lorenzo Casè, while among the gentlemen drivers in the Coppa Shell, the top step of the podium was occupied for the sixth consecutive time, by Stefano Gai (Rossocorsa) ahead of his team-mate, Tommaso Rocca and Massimo Mantovani (Motor/Malucelli).

Among those entered in the European series of the Trofeo Pirelli, it was the German driver, Bjorn Grossmann (Autohaus Gohm) who took the top slot, followed home by Austria’s Philipp Baron (Baron Service) and the Slovak racer Jan Danis (Scuderia Praha). In the Coppa Shell, victory went to France’s Jean-Marc Bachelier (Motor/Piacenza) who crossed the line ahead of two drivers, Csaba Spitzmueller and Tibor Valint, entered by the Hungarian team, Warm Up.
In the”A” and “B” Grids in the Shell Historic Challenge, for cars fitted with drum brakes and those with discs, it was Dieter Roschmann who was first past the chequered flag, at the wheel of a 1970 Ferrari 512 M, followed home by Pierangelo Maselli driving a 1976 Ferrari 308 GTB and Harry Leventis in a 1964 Ferrari Dino 206 SP.
Tomorrow’s programme features the final races and further practice sessions for the historic single-seaters, while Marc Gené will do some exhibition laps at the wheel of two very special cars: the F2008 that won last year’s Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship and one of the Ferrari FXX laboratory cars, this one actually owned by seven times Formula 1 World Champion, Michael Schumacher.
The second race in the Italian Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli will be shown live on Sky Sport 2, tomorrow at 11.55. The same channel will then replace Race 1 at 11 and Race 2 at 15.30, 20 and 23.45.
