FIA GT - Budapest (HU) -Three Maserati MC12s line up in Hungary

27/08/2009 - Budapest

The FIA GT championship resumes after the summer break for the season's fifth round, which will take place this weekend at the Hungaroring racetrack, 19 km (12 miles) from Budapest.
The Hungarian circuit has already been the site of FIA GT races on six occasions, while it will be the second time the MC12 will race there after the 2006 race.
On that occasion, Vitaphone Racing's MC12s - weighed down with 85 and 105 kg ballast each - concluded the three-hour race respectively at fifth and seventh place, nevertheless acquiring enough points to ensure the German team the second consecutive title among the racing teams.
This year there will be three MC12 participating in the race, which will start off on Sunday at 1.15 pm local time, to end two hours later.
The reigning champions Michael Bartels and Andrea Bertolini, driving MC12 n° 1, must try to regain the top of the classification despite the overall 105 kg ballast (80 kg plus the 25 kg imposed by the Federation to all the MC12s to balance out performance).
Without performance ballast and aiming to achieve their first success of the season, Portuguese driver Miguel Ramos and his German team-mate Alex Müller will be at the wheel of MC12 n° 2.

After the second place won at the recent 24 Hours in Spa, a third MC12 (n° 33) will join the two usual Vitaphone Racing Team Maseratis, representing Vitaphone Racing Team DHL. This third vehicle will be driven by Alessandro Pier Guidi and Matteo Bobbi, and will be carrying a 30-kg ballast.
After his positive experience at the 2007 24 Hours in Spa and the 2008 race in Zolder, Matteo Bobbi returns at the wheel of the MC12 with the aim - shared with his team mate - of helping the Vitaphone team defend its driver and team titles. Alessandro Pier Guidi, on the other hand, has been the protagonist driving the MC12 in Belgium's last two 24 Hours with two second places in addition to a positive 2007 season with Playteam Sarafree.
