Super Trofeo race cars will make their UK racing debut

Having supported the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium, the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series makes its way across the English Channel to Silverstone, UK, on 15-16 August 2009.
The world’s only four-wheel drive mono-marque series will support the British F3 and British GT Championships on one of the world’s most famous circuits. The high-speed track will allow drivers to make full use of the 570 hp-equipped Super Trofeo race car with its V10 5.2 litre ‘Iniezione Diretta Stratificata’ engine.



Six different teams secured podium finishes at Spa-Francorchamps, and the exciting mix of action and close competition is set to continue in the UK with professional and gentleman drivers battling side-by-side, including British sportscar hero Andy Wallace, who will guest drive in a Lamborghini VIP Super Trofeo race car. Wallace, whose victories include the 24 Hours of Le Mans, 24 Hours of Daytona and 12 Hours of Sebring, will compete against other endurance drivers, such as Dutchman Peter Kox.
“This is another classic circuit, and the fastest yet on the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo calendar,” said Maurizio Reggiani, Director of Research and Development at Lamborghini. “The open and flat layout means that the drivers can achieve really high speeds, and there are a number of very quick corners that reward bravery and demonstrate the power and grip that the Super Trofeo race cars offer.
“There are also two demanding, highly technical sections which require tremendous finesse; the cars’ four-wheel drive system will be very useful at the end of the lap in the tight complex of bends that call for great traction. We are prepared for some fantastic on-track battles.”
