Hungarian GP - Raikkonen 7th and Massa 8th in Hungary's first practice session

Hungaroring, 24 July 2009

At the outskirts of the hot Hungarian capital the first free practice session for the Hungarian GP, the tenth race of this F1 season, came to an end. This morning the mechanics worked on Felipe's and Kimi's F60s to go on the track for the 90-minute session, after which the two single-seaters from Ferrari were on position seven and eight on the time sheet with 1:22.796 and 1:22.855 for Kimi and Felipe respectively. They drove 23 and 25 laps, running mainly on the hard compound Bridgestone brought to Hungary. In the afternoon the work will proceed as usual.

Meanwhile Heikki Kovalainen on McLaren drove the fastest lap in a time of 1:22.278, followed by the Williams with Nico Rosberg and his teammate Lewis Hamilton. In the morning session Jaime Alguersuari had his debut with Toro Rosso and he will race for the team from Faenza until the end of this season.

The Hungaroring reminds one a bit of Monte Carlo, with the first section with long corners, followed by the second section with corner sequences and the third with two very wide corners. It is very important here at Hungary to be kind to the tyres.
