Brno (CZ), 1 August 2010 – The game is on after the fourth round of the Trofeo Maserati GranTurismo MC held this weekend in Brno, Czech Republic.
Thanks to his two victories, Pietro Zumerle raises his points to 48, only one point away from the leading duo, Goldstein and Sundberg. They end the round with the only pole point in the qualifying races.

In the first race Zumerle took advantage of Peter Sundberg’s exit from the scene. Zumerle was disqualified from the race because he failed to return to the pit lane for a penalty drive-through caused by a false start. Second place was taken up by Paolo Necchi. Sergio Rota got third, threatened towards the end by the return of Emanuele Smurra (who came in fifth).

In race 2 the Veronese Zumerle further highlighted his success with a pole position and the fastest time. His most dangerous contender was Sergio Rota, who saw his dreams of glory vanish when he went off track while he was ahead, only a few turns from the finish line. Emanuele Smurra, winner of the 2003 Trofeo Maserati, gets a place in the podium for the first time in this championship. Paolo Necchi came in third, thus filling two podiums with all-Italian drivers.

Pietro Zumerle (Trofeo): “This weekend couldn’t have gone better. It was really a surprise for me; I didn’t think I would do so well because I skipped the Brands Hatch and I thought I had lost continuity. Now I hope to participate in the next rounds to try to fight for the classification”.

Paolo Necchi: “I am thrilled to get these two podium positions in Brno, a circuit I was unfamiliar with. My aim was to earn as many points as possible to improve my place in the standings and I can say I accomplished that. I can’t wait to get back in the car for the next round in Oschersleben”.
This afternoon, Sunday 1 August at 5:45 pm (GMT), Eurosport will broadcast highlights of the Maserati championship in their Motorsports Weekend show, and on Thursday, 5 August, a detailed roundup of the two races will be aired on Eurosport 2 from 6:00 pm to 6:30 pm (GMT).
The fifth round of the Trofeo Maserati GranTurismo MC will be held on 5 September in Oschersleben, Germany, where, as usual, Maserati will organize brand promotion activities for its customers to participate in.
